Design Standards and Guidelines in Georgetown

The preservation and design standards used by the Old Georgetown Board (OGB) and Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) are similar but not identical to those used by the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) and Historic Preservation Office (HPO).

OGB Standards and Guidelines

By law, OGB comments on the “exterior architectural features, height, appearance, color, and texture of the materials of exterior construction” in Georgetown.

Sign Regulations

The District’s sign regulations include some more restrictive rules that apply only to Georgetown.

HPRB Standards and Guidelines

HPRB uses the same standards and guidelines in Georgetown as in other historic districts. HPO also uses these standards when reviewing work that is not visible from public space.
