Owners of historic properties that are income-producing (all or part of a building) may be eligible for a 20% income tax credit for rehabilitation work.
Income producing properties may include businesses, apartment buildings, rental units, home offices, etc., but do not include primary residences
- The work must meet high standards for both exterior and interior rehabilitation
- The work must be reviewed by the DC State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service
- Rehabilitation expenditures must exceed the greater of $5,000 or the adjusted basis of the building
