Ward 7 Implementation

Project Description

In FY26, the DC Office of Planning's Ward 7 Implementation program includes grants and projects to implement recommendations from place based plans in Ward 7. This website will be updated over the course of the projects to inform the public on progress and a calendar of events.

Ward 7 Implementation

In FY26, the DC Office of Planning (OP) initiated three projects in Ward 7. These projects will implement recommendations made in Ward 7 specific planning initiatives including the Nannie Helen Burroughs Corridor Small Area Plan, the Pennsylvania Avenue East Small Area Plan, and the Deanwood Comprehensive Community Development Model. These programs include:

  • The Ward 7 Shared Commercial Kitchen Grant
  • The Ward 7 Public Space Activation Grant
  • The Ward 7 Historic Signs Program

Shared Commercial Kitchen Grant: The Ward 7 Shared Commercial Kitchen Grant will work to develop a shared commercial kitchen space in Ward 7 and to connect food-based entrepreneurs to use the new space. By creating shared kitchen infrastructure and supporting local entrepreneurs, the grant will help expand food retail options in the ward and drive economic development through small business support.

Public Space Activation Grant: The Ward 7 Public Space Activation Grant will work to implement public space interventions that catalyze economic development and support local businesses in Ward 7. The grant seeks to celebrate Ward 7's vibrant culture by leveraging the work of cultural organizations, businesses, and local artists to attract more visitors to its commercial corridors and adjacent parks and open spaces.

Historic Sign Program: The Ward 7 Historic Signs Program will work to install new historic signs in Ward 7. Additionally, the program will evaluate select existing historic signs to understand their condition and suggested repair and restoration.
