Tenleytown Public Life Study

The Tenleytown Public Life Study was undertaken to answer the question: how is the Tenleytown-AU Metro Station area performing as a place for people?

The project was driven by three complementary goals:

  1. Inform the design process for the Tenleytown-AU Metro station pedestrian access improvements, being led by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).
  2. Identify design opportunities for future mixed-use redevelopment in Tenleytown.
  3. Support local efforts to improve and activate public spaces in Tenleytown.

Public life studies analyze observed human behavior in shared spaces to inform policy, regulations, and temporary or permanent public space design interventions. Analysis and field work for the Tenleytown Public Life Study was performed in fall of 2018, with the assistance of graduate planning and architecture students from the University of Maryland-College Park and the Tenleytown Main Street organization.
