The Rhode Island Avenue Planning Study examined a 1.7-mile portion of Rhode Island Avenue NE, extending from 13th Street NE to Eastern Avenue NE.
The study presents a vision for the future of the corridor with 25 actionable strategies and Streetscape Design Guidelines. Recommended strategies seek to enhance the corridor by:
- Supporting existing small businesses and attracting new businesses to meet community needs
- Creating outdoor gathering spaces that feature arts and culture
- Establishing a comfortable pedestrian environment
- Expanding housing options for all incomes
These recommendations will be implemented through private development and public investment, led by public agencies, property owners, and community groups.
