In 2008, four major planning initiatives were underway to advance Central Washington, DC as the centerpiece of the region and a role model for the nation:
- The Center City Action Agenda
- The National Capital Framework Plan
- The National Mall Plan
- The Capitol Complex Master Plan
The Government of the District of Columbia, National Capital Planning Commission, US Commission of Fine Arts, National Park Service, and Architect of the Capitol coordinated on these forward-looking planning projects to establish common objectives and complementary priorities. These initiatives responded to both local and federal challenges and opportunities and reflect the mission and goals of their respective agencies.
The guide, Planning Together for Central Washington, details the five shared core objectives for the center's city's future as noted below in the Goals section.
Goals
- Welcoming Atmosphere
- Well-Connected Public Space
- Distinctive Spaces
- Green and Sustainable
- 21st Century Transportation
