Marcelo Bohrt

Dr. Marcelo Bohrt is a sociologist with extensive experience in academic and government settings. Through his research and public service, he has focused on strengthening how public institutions use data and research insights to develop equitable and effective policies and programs.

Before joining the DC Office of Planning, Dr. Bohrt served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Mayor’s Office of Racial Equity, where he partnered with District agencies to strengthen policy and program development through an equity lens and supported equitable data infrastructure projects.

Dr. Bohrt began his career as an Assistant Professor at American University’s School of International Service, teaching undergraduate and doctoral courses on racial inequality, public governance, and research methods. He has led research projects on social inequality and equity policy in several countries. His scholarship has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Social Science Research Council and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Bohrt holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from Brown University and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin.
