(Washington, DC) The Coalition for Smarter Growth, a DC-based non-profit advocacy organization, named Harriet Tregoning the 2010 recipient of the Livable Communities Leadership Award.  Tregoning was recognized for playing a leading role at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments in crafting the Greater Washington 2050 Regional Sustainability Vision, spearheading the Transportation Planning Board’s development of the region’s first priority bus transit plan to compete for a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) stimulus grant, and working to revamp DC’s 1950s zoning code to support walkable, vibrant communities that reaffirm the role of the human scale and the role of transit, walking and bicycling. Previous awardees have included: Congressman Gerry Connolly, Bob Peck, Dan Tangherlini, and Chris Zimmerman.
