New Age-At-Home Initiatives in the District

Thursday, March 6, 2008

A ‘Senior Village’ is a concept designed to provide the support network necessary to enable seniors to live in their own homes as long as possible, while maintaining social connectedness and civic involvement in their communities. This concept has taken hold in the District and several communities are exploring the possibilities for their residents. This report provides a brief overview of the first senior village which is the Beacon Hill Village in Boston, the various senior village initiatives in the District, demographics of the District’s 50 years and over population, and possible role of ‘Baby Boomers’ in the senior village movement.
