Job Summary

This position is located in the Office of Planning (OP), Data Analysis and Visualization (DAV) Division.  The OP mission is to plan for the long-term growth of the District of Columbia, to help ensure it reflects our values of an inclusive and vibrant city. OP guides development in the District of Columbia’s distinctive neighborhoods by engaging stakeholders and residents, performing research and analysis, serving as the steward of our historic resources, and publishing various planning documents, racial equity, coordination of public resources and civic infrastructure including the Comprehensive Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent in this position functions as a Data and Visualization Analyst and is responsible for identifying, integrating and analyzing multiple complex data and datasets from across the DC Government and external sources to inform strategic planning efforts. Incumbent provides business intelligence and data visualization support and various data analysis services that include but are not limited to: advanced statistical and exploratory data analyses and data visualization for report development. The work frequently includes importing, refining, validating, mapping and/or modelling data (including statistical models) with the purpose of understanding or making conclusions from data for planning and decision-making purposes. 

Incumbent in this role is responsible for creating data visualizations for a wide variety of scenarios including the identification of trends and forecast possibilities. Creates maps using Geographic Information Systems software including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Prepares memos, briefings decks, reports and other materials related to methodologies, analyses, results and recommendations. Works with users to define requirements for reports and support their implementation, including design of reporting workflows. Designs and implements robust user-centric dashboards, applying cutting-edge practices and working with clients and other end-users to produce reports as needed. Creates visually appealing story maps to communicate insights to support informed decision-making. Assists with the integration of data to planning analyses, including helping define methodology, undertake research, validation of results, review of findings, and development of reports as needed.
