Friday, December 18, 2009

(Washington, DC) - District officials from the Office of Planning, Department of the Environment, Department of Transportation and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency presented an update to over 50 residents in Southwest DC who may be affected by changes to DC's Flood Insurance Rate Maps.

Officials presented an update on the status of DC's Floodplain Management Program, as well as the city's efforts to make improvements to a component of the city's floodplain infrastructure known as the Potomac Park Levee, which is located on National Park Service property between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial and protects downtown, Southeast and Southwest DC.

The presentation was part of the District's ongoing efforts to inform affected residents, property owners and merchants about flood risk protection activities.
