Andrew Aurbach

Andrew Aurbach serves as a Historian member of the Historic Preservation Review Board. His career includes extensive story telling, research and production of documentary and public affairs television programs as well as communications consulting and multimedia production. He also consults with clients on cultural and environmental sustainability

Mr. Aurbach has been involved with a wide variety of community initiatives related to transportation, planning, and sustainability. He was a member of the Cleveland Park Historical Society board from 2000-2006. He currently serves on the Champion's Council for the Coalition for Smarter Growth providing guidance for community building, capacity building, and outreach. As a Ward 3 resident, he served on the steering committees of Connecticut Avenue Pedestrian Action and the DC Office of Planning's Neighborhood Sustainability Indicators Project. In his previous and current term on HPRB, Aurbach serves on the Board’s Sustainability Task Force, developing guidelines and outreach strategy on the nexus of historic preservation and resilient urbanism.

He earned a degree in History and Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from the Catholic University of America.

Term

Mr. Aurbach was appointed in 2006, reappointed in 2012, 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2024. His current term ends July 21, 2027.
