Job Summary
The Deputy Director, Planning and Data Visualization is a member of the senior management team and is expected to operate with a high degree of independence and autonomy. They oversee and provide strategic guidance to the Neighborhood Planning, Citywide, and Data Analysis & Visualization teams. Each of the three teams is managed by an Associate Director that reports directly to the incumbent. The incumbent works with the Associate Directors to set goals for the divisions to ensure they are consistent with the overall planning mission of OP.
Duties and Responsibilities
Works with the agency Director help formulate agency strategies and policies and identifies short and long-range goals for citywide planning policy and neighborhoods. Represents OP and the Director at high-level meetings with counterparts from other cities, regional organizations, and federal agencies. Serves as Acting Director in the absence of the Director as needed. Serves on committees, task forces, and special planning teams to provide expertise on land use, development policy, and data analysis. Advises District agencies on land use, development policy, and data analysis.
Incumbent uses extensive experience managing or collaborating on complex planning projects to align expected outcomes with strategic agency goals. They should possess extensive knowledge of pertinent District and federal laws, codes, regulations, and practices regarding city planning and urban development to provide sound strategic guidance to the Division. They should also possess extensive knowledge of national and regional trends in emerging city planning and urban development policies and practices.
