The Historic Preservation Review Board met and considered the following items on April 27, 2006.  


CONSIDERATION OF MULTIPLE-PROPERTY THEMATIC DOCUMENT

Telecommunications in Washington, D.C., 1877-1954.
Nomination approved. Nomination will be forwarded to the National Register.


HISTORIC LANDMARK AND HISTORIC DISTRICT NOMINATIONS

Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company Warehouse, 1111 North Capitol Street, NE, Case #06-06.
Nomination approved. Nomination will be forwarded to the National Register.

Newton Theater, 1200-02 Newton Street (3601-11 12th Street), NE, Case #06-04.
Nomination approved. Nomination will be forwarded to the National Register.

1440 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, Case #06-07.
Nomination approved. Nomination will be forwarded to the National Register.


HISTORIC LANDMARKS

1440 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, HPA #06-xxx, raze; concept/alteration, addition.
Staff Report adopted, approving conceptual plan for renovation and addition of floors at rear; Raze request denied.

Eastern Market, 225 7th Street, SE, HPA #06-179, concept/alteration.
Staff Report approved recommending moving forward on eight proposed elements, denial of the introduction of  skylights, and study further five elements of the proposed plan.


CAPITOL HILL HISTORIC DISTRICT

17 6th Street, NE, HPA#06-232, concept/demolition and new construction.
Project approved in concept with some modification. Final approval delegated to staff.

509 C Street, NE, HPA #06-185, concept/addition, alterations.
Project approved in concept with some modification. Final approval delegated to staff.


ANACOSTIA HISTORIC DISTRICT

2228, 2234, and 2238 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE, HPA #05-209, 210, 211, demolition.
Denial of permit recommended to Mayor’s Agent.


SHAW & BLAGDEN ALLEY HISTORIC DISTRICTS

1124 9th Street, NW, #06-192, concept/alteration.
Three-story addition not approved as designed; Alternative schemes recommended. Applicant will return to the board.   

1306 8th Street, NW, HPA #06-230, concept/new construction.
Four story building approved in general height and massing; Applicant to return to the board when the design is further developed.

MOUNT PLEASANT HISTORIC DISTRICT

3109 18th Street, NW, #06-233, roof addition and deck.
Staff Report approved requesting substantial revisions to concept plans.

 

CONSENT CALENDAR

The Historic Preservation Review Board met and considered the following consent items on April 27, 2006.
These items were proposed for approval by the Board based upon the written record, without discussion.

Historic Landmark

Washington Hebrew Congregation (Greater New Hope Baptist Church), 816 8th Street, NW, HPA #06-xxx, review of proposed scope of preservation work for transfer of development rights.
Project approved in concept for permission to transfer development rights. Applicant to return to board with more detailed plans before final approval is considered.
Anacostia Historic District

1631-1633 U Street, SE, HPA #06-xxx, concept/reconstruction and additions to duplex building.
Approved in Concept per staff report.

Capitol Hill Historic District

643 South Carolina Avenue, SE, HPA #06-229, concept/rear addition.
Project approved in concept with some modifications. Final approval delegated to staff.


Cleveland Park Historic District

3610 Idaho Avenue, NW, HPA #06-235, concept/addition, alterations.
Project approved in concept with some modifications. Final approval delegated to staff.

Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District

2301 Tracy Place, NW, HPA #06-231, concept/expansion of side porch.
This project was withdrawn from the calendar and will be heard at a later date.

Woodley Park Historic District

2622 Garfield Street, NW, HPA #06-180, two-story rear addition.
Project approved.


DENIAL CALENDAR

The Historic Preservation Review Board considered the following items on April 27, 2006.
These items were proposed for denial by the Board based upon the written record, without discussion.

U Street Historic District

1009 S Street, NW, HPA #06-196, vinyl windows on front elevation.
Permit application denied as recommended in the staff report.  

Woodley Park Historic District

2661 Connecticut Avenue, NW, HPA #06-198, entrance canopy.
Project withdrawn prior to hearing.
