Designation Application Materials

To apply for designation of a historic landmark or historic district in the District of Columbia, use the attached forms and instructions.

The application form for listing in the DC Inventory of Historic Sites is a one-page cover sheet giving basic information on the applicant and the property or area proposed for designation. As an attachment to this cover sheet, use the standard registration form issued by the National Register of Historic Places to provide additional information, including a description of the physical appearance and statement of the significance of the nominated properties. Complete all sections of the National Register form. This convenience allows the same form to be used for listing in both the DC Inventory and National Register.
