Job Summary

The DC Office of Planning (OP) has the lead responsibility for planning the long-term growth of the District of Columbia. OP provides the vision, framework and principles that guide land use, change, growth and development of an equitable and vibrant city. OP undertakes citywide and neighborhood planning and engagement; urban design and development review; historic preservation; mapping and data analysis and serves as the official Census State Data Center.

The position functions as Information Technology (IT) Specialist responsible for providing direct technical support related to the agency computer systems and hardware and software needs. In this role, the IT specialist provides on-site and remote assistance, including setting up computers, installing and upgrading software, and troubleshooting IT issues for the agency and its staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will assist the lead IT specialist in maintaining essential OP IT operations, including managing, and maintaining servers, ensuring government IT security policies are implemented and security software is installed on all computer systems. Ensures monthly Windows updates, security patches and biannual Windows feature updates are applied to all personal computers (PC).

The incumbent will also participate in, or assist with, interagency coordination and initiatives, including those with the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). Provides support to the agency by identifying, clarifying, analyzing, and producing solutions to IT problems. Evaluates and prioritizes requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking, and other computer-related technologies.

Performs computer servers, hardware and software diagnostics and coordinates repairs/service, either in person or utilizing remote access tools to assist users. Provides support to the senior executive staff. Handles problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow-up for routine user problems, before escalating to more complex problems. Coordinates agency equipment needs by working directly with vendors. Issues and tracks hardware and software and updates and maintains inventory records. Tracks user account life cycle and helps with onboarding and offboarding of employees. Builds and maintains customer service relationships with all user groups.

Installs and tests computers, printers, scanners and other peripherals, windows Systems, and software applications. Assist with computer life cycle management; with issue/ risk identification, assessment, solutions in coordination with lead IT specialist; and with security updates in coordination with the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). Helps with communication of information to agency as appropriate.  Keeps abreast of new developments in computer technologies. Assists lead IT specialist as appropriate.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
