Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of Planning (OP), Citywide Strategy and Analysis and Neighborhood Planning, Data and Visualization Divisions. The OP’s mission is to plan for the long-term growth of the District of Columbia, to help ensure it reflects the values of an inclusive and vibrant city. OP helps the District work toward a positive future in which all District residents can thrive, regardless of income, race, age, or background. OP guides development in the District of Columbia’s distinctive neighborhoods by engaging stakeholders and residents, performing research and analysis, serving as the steward of our historic resources, and publishing various planning documents, including the Comprehensive Plan.
This position functions as a Demographic Specialist responsible for coordinating the collection, analysis, and reporting of data and research about the District of Columbia and surrounding areas’ demographic issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs the collection, research, and analysis of area demographic trends and their implications using a broad range of data sources, including census, American Community Survey, and Current Population Survey to gain insights into area-specific trends and their implications. Collaborates with micro-geography population, household, and employment estimates and projections related to emigration, immigration, race, ancestry, ethnicity, age, gender, language usage, group quarters, poverty, housing units, labor force, and occupation to ensure access to comprehensive data, support informed decision-making, enable trend identification, and facilitate accurate population projections for effective planning and policy implementation. Contributes to the agency’s technical assistance program by responding to inquiries about demographic topics or data and providing custom analyses. Participates in research summaries and other written materials to ensure the accessibility of demographic information and allow stakeholders to make informed decisions, enhance the understanding of demographic dynamics, and foster evidence-based practices in various domains, such as urban planning, public health, or social services.
