Historic District Signs
In 2004, the Office of Planning’s Historic Preservation Office developed a city-wide design standard for historic district signs. The signs have served to provide greater awareness and appreciation of the city’s historically designated neighborhoods. Over the past two decades, signs have been installed in many districts with funding for their fabrication provided by District and Federal agencies, as well as community groups, business entities and individuals.
The Office of Planning does not provide funding for new or replacement historic district signs. However, it can assist interested communities with strategies for obtaining funding, as well as providing sign specifications, mapping sign locations, and information on sign vendors and installers.
