Evelyn Kasongo

Evelyn Kasongo, Lead Planner for Equity Initiatives, joined the DC Office of Planning in 2006 as the Ward 7 Planner and became the Ward 8 Planner in 2008. In 2017, Evelyn became the Lead Planner for Equity Initiatives. In this role, she works to enhance OP's focus on equity within the areas of Planning, Engagement and Design and advance planning intentions especially in overlooked and underserved communities. Evelyn’s past accomplishments include completion of the CHASE (Congress Heights, Anacostia, St. Elizabeths) Action Agenda and St. Elizabeths East Master Plan and Design Guidelines. The East Campus Master Plan anticipates 4.6 million SF of redevelopment for the campus and calls for the creation of a mixed-use campus with over $4 billion in development costs. Ms. Kasongo comes to the DC Office of Planning from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where she worked as a Senior Planner in the zoning section of the Development Review Division. Ms. Kasongo also worked as a consultant for five years with Woolpert LLC, an architectural/engineering firm in Arlington, Virginia. Ms. Kasongo holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Architecture and a Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in Community Planning with a specialization in urban design. Ms. Kasongo is a member of the American Planning Association.
