Christopher Delfs

Christopher Delfs serves as Deputy Director for Planning, Engagement and Design within the DC Office of Planning.  He oversees the agency’s Neighborhood Planning and Urban Design divisions, and provides leadership in the development of place-based plans that shape the built environment and undergird the great communities of Washington, D.C.  Mr. Delfs joined the Office of Planning in 2012 as the Senior Citywide Planner responsible for capital and facilities planning.   Before that, he worked as the head of Strategic Planning for the DC Department of Transportation where he managed the teams responsible for Neighborhood Planning, Systems Planning, and Development Review, and created the Department’s Livable Streets program.  

Mr. Delfs holds his B.A. from Middlebury College in Vermont, M.A.s from American University and the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica, and a certificate in Collaborative Governance from the Harvard University Kennedy School.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, and has played a key role in the District of Columbia’s Comprehensive Plan as well as master plans for Transportation, Public Safety, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works.
