Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Two upcoming events will feature the current archaeological survey at 3324 Dent Place NW, site of the home of Yarrow Mamout, an African Muslim and former slave. They are:

  • Yarrow Mamout Archaeological Project Lecture and Book Signing - Sunday, September 20, America's Islamic Heritage Museum, 2315 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE - 2-4 pm.

This program will update the community about the archaeological survey DC HPO archaeologists are conducting at the Georgetown site. James Johnson, author of a book on Mamout, will also talk about his life and sign books (see attached flyer).

  • The Extraordinary Story and Discovery of Yarrow Mamout: A Seminar for Members of the Public and Classroom Teachers - Saturday, September 26, 10:30 am - 4:00 pm, Intercultural Center Auditorium at Georgetown University.

This unique seminar will explore the process of discovery of the Yarrow Mamout story uncovered by researchers, and discuss its significance for American and African history, as well as the history of the District of Columbia for K-12 curriculum enrichment (see attached flyer).
