Colleen Mitchell
Transportation Planner 
 
Colleen Mitchell joined the Office of Planning in March of 2008 in a newly created transportation planning role. Colleen has over ten years of project management and planning experience with specialized knowledge in pedestrian planning and strategies to encourage the use of alternative travel modes. Prior to joining the Office of Planning, she worked in the private sector providing transportation consulting services to jurisdictions nationwide. In this capacity she managed the development of numerous pedestrian and multi-modal transportation plans which typically included facility and policy recommendations, design guidance, code revisions, and implementation plans.  Colleen received a Master of Community Planning degree from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia. At the Office of Planning, Colleen works on regional transportation and sustainability efforts, as well as several District initiatives, such as Healthy by Design, and serves as a resource for OP staff. 
 
Colleen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Planning Association.
