An Innovative, Mixed-Income, Mixed-Use Community Forming the Waterfront's Urban Core
One of America’s largest waterfront transformations, with at least 40 percent of its land area currently subject to redevelopment, the Near Southeast will make historic Carrollsburg a model of 21st century planning. This will be an active, transit-oriented neighborhood combining mixed-income housing, offices and waterfront destinations. The Capper-Carrollsburg Hope VI will provide over 700 units of affordable housing. Meanwhile, the Washington Navy Yard and the US Department of Transportation headquarters will host over 18,000 workers and foster new private-sector jobs. Canal Blocks Park will lead to a great waterfront park at Southeast Federal Center, providing neighborhood access to the river for the first time in over 100 years.
