First Public Meeting Held for NoMA Planning Process
(Washington, DC) The initial public meeting in the NoMA (North of Massachusetts Avenue) Vision Plan & Development Strategy planning process was held on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at McKinley Technology High School. Approximately 230 citizens attended the kick-off event which included an open house, announcement of members of the advisory and technical committees for the project, and a presentation that covered six principles: land use, design, transportation, infrastructure, open space, and community. This meeting was the first of three public forums that are scheduled to take place throughout the project. The plan is scheduled to be completed in April 2006.
The emerging NoMA vision proposes to conserve the existing neighborhoods and create a walkable, transit-accessible, dynamic, and diverse mixed-use area. Objectives include coordinated public and private investment and strengthened connections between new development, the new Metro station, and nearby existing residential neighborhoods.
