Over 300 Attend Third Annual Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation
(Washington, DC) Over 300 award recipients and guests attended the Third Annual Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation held at the grand Kennedy-Warren Apartments on Connecticut Avenue, NW, on October 22, 2005.
In marking the special occasion for the historic preservation community, Mayor Anthony A. Williams noted that since the DC Preservation Law was enacted in 1978, “The District has realized approximately $1.31 billion dollars in historic rehabilitation tax credit projects alone.” The mayor added, "That doesn’t count the hundreds of millions that have been invested in other historic district revitalization efforts, particularly rehab, that don’t qualify for the tax credit.”
Award recipient projects this year represent an investment of $382 million in the District of Columbia resulting in 708 new housing units, a number of which target affordable workforce residents.
The event was hosted by the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Office, part of the city’s Office of Planning. The DC Preservation League, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, and the B.F. Saul Property Company co-hosted the ceremony.
