DC Office of Planning Announces Comp Plan Week Number 2

(Washington, DC)  The Office of Planning announces Comp Plan Week Number 2, the second round of community workshops to keep DC residents involved with the revision of the city’s Comprehensive Plan.  The Comp Plan is the document that will guide growth, change, and neighborhood conservation for the District for the next 20 years.

The  workshops, in the form of “Open House Planning Fairs,” will be held at four locations around the city from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Residents may attend any of the fair dates.

Using an open house format, residents will visit stations set up with information regarding the choices to be made for issues that matter most to them – from affordable housing to better choices for neighborhood shopping and recreation.  Visit the Map Room for discussion of map issues and the Very Important Question Room for more in-depth discussion regarding specific issues and concerns.

Each participant will receive a passport that will be stamped after visiting each issue station and completing a questionnaire.  Participants who accumulate enough passport stamps will earn a prize.

The planning fairs will also showcase the convergence of planning efforts by several DC agencies, an unprecedented attempt to create a coordinated “Family of Plans” to guide the city’s growth while conserving neighborhoods.  These agencies will be an integral part of Comp Plan Week Number 2.

The Open House Planning Fairs of Comp Plan Week Number 2 are the next major opportunity for formal public participation in the Comprehensive Plan Revision Process.  It follows Comp Plan Week Number 1, which was held in January 2005, and the eight Ward ANC Comp Plan Briefings, which were held in May 2005 and June 2005.  Over 500 citizens attended the four workshops of Comp Plan Week Number 1 and over 345 residents participated in the Ward ANC Comp Plan briefings.
