Applications Now Being Accepted for Third Annual Mayor's Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation 

 
(Washington, DC)  The DC Historic Preservation Office (DCHPO) is accepting nominations for the Third Annual Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation. The 2005 awards program will honor significant contributions by individuals, organizations, and businesses promoting historic preservation in the District of Columbia.
  • Individual Lifetime Achievement for Excellence in Historic Preservation: recognition of an individual who has made a significant, long-term (20 years or more) contribution to historic preservation in the District of Columbia.
  • Excellence in Stewardship: recognition of stewardship efforts on behalf of a significant historic resource (resource must be listed in the DC Inventory of Historic Sites or the National Register of Historic Places) exemplifying superior, quality preservation.
  • Excellence in Community Involvement: recognition of individual or organization support and/or involvement in neighborhood preservation issues, plans, projects or initiatives.
  • Excellence in Design: recognition of exceptional work completed under the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties in the categories of preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive use, and/or new construction in a historic district. Both small- and large-scale properties, buildings, objects, structures, or landscapes will be considered. Projects must be completed to be eligible.
  • Excellence in Public Education: recognition of innovative and exceptional preservation educational programs, curricula, or informational tools. Outstanding media coverage of preservation issues by reporters, writers, publishers and publications are also eligible.
  • Excellence in Archeology: recognition of outstanding achievements in contributing to the understanding of past cultural behavior.
