(Washington, DC) On April 23, 2005, the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation (AWC), the DC Office of Planning (OP), and the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT), in collaboration with the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, held a planning workshop for communities around the South Capitol Street Corridor and the area near the planned ballpark.
The event built on previous efforts to receive and incorporate community input regarding the vision for the South Capitol Street Corridor and to shape how the planned new ballpark will be integrated into surrounding neighborhoods.
The Workshop sought to accomplish three goals:
1) To discuss a vision for the overall neighborhood, given the post-AWI decision to locate the Ballpark within the SW neighborhood;
2) To share key planning issues, constraints, and opportunities with area residents resulting from the many initiatives underway; and,
3) To seek public input on options for community development and revitalization.
Agency leads provided a brief presentation regarding a vision for the region, including a summary of key planning issues, constraints and opportunities under deliberation.
Afterwards, breakout discussion groups were formed on five specific topic areas of concern:

Table 2 - Neighborhood Development
Table 3 - Environment and Open Space
Table 4 - Ballpark Design Principles & Zoning
Table 5 - South Capitol Street Corridor
Detailed flipchart notes were taken on each discussion.
The next South Capitol Street Corridor and Baseball Master Plan public meeting will be held May 24, 2005 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the King-Greenleaf Recreational Center, 201 N Street SW, Washington, DC 20024. The purpose of the meeting is to update the public on the planning process and take in further community feedback from area residents. We hope to see you there!
