Office of Planning Sends Preliminary Report Regarding Inclusionary Zoning to Zoning Commission

(Washington, DC) On April 29, 2005, the Office of Planning (OP) submitted its report regarding Zoning Commission Case No. 04-33, a petition by the Campaign for Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning (CMIZ), to the Zoning Commission.  Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) seeks to promote a mix of market rate and affordable housing units in residential construction.  OP recommended that the Zoning Commission schedule a public hearing regarding three concepts: a mandatory proposal by OP, a mandatory concept developed by CMIZ, and an incentive-based proposal from OP.

The Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 pm at 441 4th Street NW, second floor South (Judiciary Square Metro), to consider whether the proposals should be given further consideration.  If a hearing is scheduled, the anticipated date would be approximately sometime during July 2005, with possible continuation hearings in September.
