Eight Neighborhood Summits Planned to Present DC’s Long-Range Vision to Citizens
(Washington, DC) The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Action, in cooperation with the DC Office of Planning, will be hosting eight “Neighborhood Summits” during February 2004. The purpose of these meetings is to follow up on Citizen Summit III (CS III), which was attended by more than 2,800 residents on November 15, 2003. Rather than holding one citywide follow-up meeting, the eight neighborhood summits will provide a chance for residents to hear how public comments from CSIII are being used and to communicate more directly with the Mayor about the Citywide Strategic Plan and Long-Range Vision.
At each Neighborhood Summit, the Mayor will present a “Vision for Growing an Inclusive City,” a multimedia presentation laying out three challenges that Washington must address as it plans for the future. These challenges—Creating Successful Neighborhoods, Increasing Access to Education and Employment, and Connecting the City—provide a framework for strategies to bridge the divides that now exist in our city. The strategies will be further developed during the update of the DC Comprehensive Plan in 2004 and 2005.
