Chinatown Cultural Development Strategy

The purpose of the Chinatown Cultural Development Strategy is to provide public and private stakeholders with a set of clearly defined strategies to position Chinatown as the regional anchor for Chinese/Asian culture and attractions, with national and international appeal. The strategy recommends actions to ensure a harmonized approach to the branding and marketing of Chinatown as a destination; to develop ways to engage domestic and international visitors, business travelers and particularly, DC and Washington area residents in the Chinatown experience; to attract entrepreneurs and economic development; to coordinate cultural programs, services and events; and to guide the community, policy-makers and private sector stakeholders in sustaining Chinatown as an attractive destination in its own right and a valued component of DC's Center City.

On Wednesday, August 5, 2009, the DC Office of Planning held a Mayoral Hearing to receive public comments on the Draft Chinatown Cultural Development Strategy.  The Office of Planning also received written comments from June 1 to August 7, 2009. The DC Office of Planning, in collaboration with the cooperating agencies, considered all of public comments on the draft Strategy and based on these comments made revisions to the final plan.  All of the public comments, along with the DC Office of Planning’s response and corresponding revisions to the plan, have been organized into a public digest. To view the public digest of all the public comments in english, click here*. To view the public digest in Chinese, click here*.
