Brookland/CUA Metro Station Small Area Plan

In the fall of 2006, the Office of Planning initiated a study of the neighborhoods surrounding the Brookland/CUA Metro Station. Brookland is culturally and economically diverse neighborhood rich in historic assets. As a walkable community, residents of the Northeast neighborhood enjoy an abundance of open space, a bustling retail and commercial core and close proximity to the Metro station, Brookland has been rediscovered as a desirable place to live work and play. As a result, the neighborhood is experiencing tremendous redevelopment pressure.

The Office of Planning seeks to create a redevelopment strategy for areas in and around the Metro station area that will serve as a framework to guide future development. The planning effort, which began with a public kick-off meeting in late November 2006, will ultimately yield:

  • Analysis of existing conditions
  • Market analysis
  • Assessment of historic and cultural resources
  • Transportation analysis
  • Conceptual and sub-area plans
  • Recommendations and implementation strategy
Select the link below for the consultant's report on existing transportation conditions in the study area and study of the neighborhood's existing conditions.
