Jonathan Mellon
Preservation Specialist

Jonathan Mellon is a preservation specialist for the Historic Preservation Office (HPO).  He works with property owners and other permit applicants to explain HPO guidelines, standards and procedures in the review of building permit applications for repairs, in-kind replacement and alterations to historic properties.  He is the primary contact responsible for reviewing projects in Mount Pleasant, Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, Foggy Bottom, and Foxhall Village. Mr. Mellon also reviews projects sponsored by federal agencies and owners seeking the federal rehabilitation tax credit for consistency with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards.  Prior to joining the HPO in 2006, he worked as a municipal planner for Montclair, New Jersey and the City of New York.  He has a BA in American history from Oberlin College (1994) and an MFA in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art & Design (2004).
