Community residents make up the largest constituent group for historic preservation in the District of Columbia. The Historic Preservation Office can help District residents in several ways. HPO provides information about historic homes and communities, gives guidance about home construction, expedites building permit reviews, offers limited financial assistance, and supports community preservation projects.
