The Historic Preservation Office is currently leading a public process to prepare a new Historic Preservation Plan 2015 to replace the existing plan that has guided preservation efforts for several years.
The new plan seeks to outline the goals, policies, and challenges for historic preservation in the District of Columbia through the year 2015. It will also establish a framework for coordinated implementation of the city’s preservation activities. The plan is intended for use by the Historic Preservation Office, Historic Preservation Review Board, government agencies, community organizations, and other preservation stakeholders. It will help guide decisions about the allocation of preservation resources, priorities for historic resource surveys, public outreach programs, and the stewardship, use, and promotion of our city’s heritage.
An advisory committee has been established to provide guidance to the preparation of the plan. Public comment is also being sought through community meetings and discussion at the Historic Preservation Review Board. The Historic Preservation Office welcomes suggestions and comments on the draft components of the plan, as well as reactions to the comments collected from the advisory committee and public meetings. Comments may be submitted to historic.preservation@dc.gov.
