Comprehensive Plan Amendment Process

January 2012 Status Report Update

The Office of Planning launched the first Amendment Cycle of the 2006 Comprehensive Plan in April 2009.  The Draft Amendment Report was issued on September 8, 2009.  The Mayor officially transmitted a set of amendments to the Council of the District of Columbia on June 17, 2010, as Bill 18-867, “The Comprehensive Plan Amendment Act of 2010.”  After the final review and interagency collaboration process concluded, there were four sections of the Comprehensive Plan Amendments that were considered by the Council.

On November 9, 2010, the Committee of the Whole held a “mark-up session” on Bill 18-867, “The Comprehensive Plan Amendment Act of 2010.” This allowed the Council to discuss the proposed amendments in more detail and to make revisions as deemed necessary.  On January 20, 2011, the Council had their final vote on Bill 18-867 and the legislation officially became effective as of April 8, 2011.

Bill 18-867, “The Comprehensive Plan Amendment Act of 2010” includes a total of 177 Amendments.  The Amendments consist of 123 Text and 54 Map.  To view the final bill in its entirety, click on the first link below.  To view the text and map amendments integrated into the Comprehensive Plan, click on the second link below:
